Chapter Sixteen

CAMERON

“I’ll pay whatever you want,” Soul volunteered.

Big Back Eve smirked. “Well, well, well, looks like the head nigga in charge is ready to play hero.”

Soul spoke calmly. “Look, we’re not here to play games. I understand your demand, and I’m willing to cooperate. But transferring a significant amount of money isn’t instantaneous. There are protocols, security measures, and processing times involved.”

Soul’s words about the intricacies of banking procedures and processing times felt like a slow drip in an already tense room. And I couldn’t help but wonder why it was Soul and not Jude stepping forward to handle the negotiation. The air seemed to hum with questions left unanswered.

“Cut the crap, Soul!” Hector snapped. “We’re not interested in your banking lessons. We want the money, and we want it now!”

Soul maintained his composure. “I get it. You want the money, and you’ll get it. But I need time to arrange it. These things don’t happen with the snap of a finger.”

“Oh, how convenient,” Milani said sarcastically. “Didn’t you hear me earlier? We’re all on a tight schedule here!”

Ignoring Milani’s sarcasm, Soul said, “It’s the truth, Milani. I’m not bullshitting you. I need to make arrangements, and that takes time. You have my word, though. You’ll get what you want.”

Eve crouched her big ass next to Soul. “Time is ticking, Soul. Don’t think you can fuck with us.”

Soul nodded. “I’m not trying to fuck with you, Eve. I’ll do what I can, but please be patient, a’ight.”

Eve gave a subtle nod, signaling her acknowledgment. Soul swiftly retrieved his phone, his fingers dancing across the screen as he initiated the complex process of transferring the required funds.

As Soul worked on the intricate steps of the money transfer, he turned to Milani’s skinny ass with a unique proposition—to escort Justin and Maddie to the hospital. The urgency hung in the air, evident in Justin’s blood-soaked shirt and the signs of early labor Maddie displayed. Hector, true to form, raised objections, but to everyone’s surprise, Milani responded with a nonchalant, “Why the hell not? I’m in the spirit of giving.”

“I’ll take ‘em,” Blessyn said, taking on the responsibility of guiding the injured couple to the hospital—but an unsettling feeling about her true intentions lingered in the back of my mind.

Is this bitch really going to take them to the hospital or does she have something else planned for them, I asked myself.

As Justin, with a stained shirt and a wounded stomach, helped Maddie to her feet, they followed Blessyn out of the house. I whispered a prayer for their safety, the weight of uncertainty lingering.

The room buzzed with a mix of tension and anticipation as Soul continued to work on the money transfer. Milani, seemingly unfazed, leaned against a wall, her eyes flitting between the ongoing activities and the front door through which Blessyn had disappeared with Justin and Maddie. The awkward silence was occasionally punctuated by the soft taps of Soul’s fingers on his phone.

Hector, growing increasingly restless, couldn’t withhold his frustration.
